Supporting youth in a stressful world
Young people are reporting high levels of anxiety and stress. Thankfully, donors like you are there to help them get through. Through your support of Kids Help Phone, you empower youth to find healthy strategies to cope with anxiety and stress.
“I’m feeling anxious.” “I think I may be depressed.”
“I don’t know how to deal with my stress.”
Kids Help Phone’s conversations often begin this way. So many young people report high levels of anxiety and stress. Thankfully, you can be there when they need help the most.
Our professional counsellors help kids understand why their feelings escalate from being sad or nervous, to being unable to cope. “It’s important to give youth the tools to understand what anxiety is all about and where it’s coming from,” says Counselling Manager Jason Carey.
It takes a great deal of courage for someone to reach out for help when they’re struggling. That’s why, your support empowers the kids who reach out to us making sure they can access those vital tools.
Counsellors also help young people reflect on what factors led them to this place. And, they encourage kids to put distance between themselves and the stress.
It’s a logical approach, explains Jason. “When you get a cold or the flu, are you the flu? No, you’re not. It’s the same thing with anxiety or depression or sadness. You’re not it. You just have it. It can be managed. And it can be dealt with.”
Growing up is hard — but with you by their side, young people can work through hard times and come out the other side stronger and more resilient.
“I have a lot of trouble sleeping now and I worry constantly. I find all the anxiety really stressful and it’s getting in the way of my life. Tonight I called Kids Help Phone and this is the first time I was able to sleep through the night. Thank you for listening to me – I thought I had no one who would care.” — Kids Help Phone user
