Supporting young people in Alberta

When we think of Alberta, images of farmers’ fields, vast mountains and blue lakes may come to mind. But the young people of Alberta also help shape the landscape of this prairie province.

Kids Help Phone provided support to youth in Alberta over 76,000 times in 2018. And from 2017 to 2018, there was a 199% increase in service provided by Kids Help Phone to youth living in Alberta.

In 2018, the top issues we heard about from young people in Alberta include:

  1. mental/emotional health
  2. peer and partner relationships
  3. suicide/suicide-related
  4. family changes and relationships
  5. emotional abuse
  6. bullying/harassment
  7. sexual orientation and gender identity

In the last five years, conversations about suicide and suicide-related issues have increased by 130% across Alberta. And one in every five counselling sessions in Alberta had a crisis intervention.

You can learn more below about how we can work together to help ensure every young person gets the support they need, when they need it most, across the province and the country.
