Supporting young people in Newfoundland and Labrador
In 1992, Kids Help Phone opened our first of two offices in Atlantic Canada. Here in Newfoundland and Labrador, we raise awareness of our service among youth and engage the community to support young people across the province.
Through Finding Hope: Kids Help Phone’s Action Plan for Supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Young People, we’re affirming our commitment to Indigenous youth in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunatsiavut and across the country.
We’re proud to be available to all young people in Newfoundland and Labrador for any issue — big or small. Kids Help Phone provided support to young people in Newfoundland and Labrador over 10,500 times in 2018.
In 2018, the top issues we heard about from young people in Newfoundland and Labrador include:
- mental/emotional health
- peer and partner relationships
- sexual violence or abuse
- emotional abuse
Youth in Newfoundland and Labrador discussed depression through our texting service more than any other province or territory. And Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest crisis intervention rate of any other province or territory in Canada.
