Leadership & legacy giving
Do you have a philanthropic dream for youth in Canada? Our leadership giving program can help you realize that vision.
You can have an immediate impact on kids, teens and young adults in your community and across Canada by making a significant commitment to Kids Help Phone, once or over several years.
Your philanthropic investment in Kids Help Phone provides our essential, trusted services and programs to young people across the country, in both English and French, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, by phone and online.
As a community-based national charity, we rely on individual, foundation and corporate donations and fundraising event participation for the majority of our funding. Leadership gifts play a significant role in sustaining our counselling operations. They also help us develop and launch new programs and services and provide an incredible amount of information and resources online.
We welcome the opportunity to work directly with you to better understand your philanthropic dreams, interests and priorities while helping you structure your leadership gift for maximum impact.
Our promise is to always be there for kids. It is a promise we need to keep. With you, we can.
For more information and to make a leadership gift, please contact Kate Black, Director, Philanthropy, at 416-524-3306.
You can donate publicly traded securities (stocks, bonds, mutual fund shares and other marketable securities) to Kids Help Phone without paying the capital gains tax on these securities. Including Kids Help Phone in your will or as a part of your estate plan indicates your deep commitment to support future generations of young people.
By including Kids Help Phone as a part of your legacy plan, you will help our counsellors reach more kids by expanding our vital services for today and tomorrow. Each gift has tax benefits that you may want to consider when planning your gift.
A bequest in your will is the most common type of estate gift. It’s a commitment made to Kids Help Phone to be distributed by your estate upon your death. A bequest may be a specific sum of money, a piece of property or a percentage of your residual estate. Most people make a bequest when their will is created or when significant life events cause a will to be updated or changed.
Here are some examples of bequest wording to help you get started and to review with your lawyer or estate planner:
To give a specific amount
“I give to Kids Help Phone, 439 University Avenue, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, the sum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to be used for the benefit of fulfilling their mission.”
To give a percentage of the estate
“I give to Kids Help Phone, 439 University Avenue, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, twenty percent (20%) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to be used for the benefit of fulfilling their mission.”
To give a specific asset, such as shares in a company
“I give to Kids Help Phone, 439 University Avenue, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, 500 shares of ABC Co. Inc, to be used for the benefit of fulfilling their mission.”
For a gift contingent upon a certain condition
“In the event that my brother does not survive me, I give $100,000 to Kids Help Phone, 439 University Avenue, Suite 300, to be used for the benefit of fulfilling their mission.”
To designate your gift for a specific purpose:
“I give to Kids Help Phone, 439 University Avenue, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, the sum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to be used in support of phone counselling.”
We suggest that you add a “Power to Vary” clause, for example “If at the time of my death it is impossible, impractical or inadvisable to apply the gift to this purpose, Kids Help Phone may at their discretion direct the gift to a similar purpose.”
