Sobeys supports equity-deserving groups
A proudly Canadian grocery company, Sobeys is deeply dedicated to nurturing families from coast to coast to coast through the power of nutritious food and community investment.
A long-time supporter of Kids Help Phone, Sobeys has been the largest sponsor and ticket-seller of The Grocery Foundation’s Night to Nurture Gala (which raises significant funds for Kids Help Phone each year) since the event’s launch.
In March 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began creating unprecedented disruptions and uncertainty in the lives of young people, Sobeys came forward to match all funds raised through a virtual concert series hosted by Canadian musician Alan Doyle in support of Kids Help Phone. As young people struggled to navigate the impacts of the pandemic and demand for our services skyrocketed, Sobeys’s generosity helped ensure no call or text went unanswered.
In 2022, the company deepened its support for young people in Canada with a transformational investment of $1.25 million to advance our efforts to break down barriers to mental health services for Indigenous and Black youth, who are significantly more likely to experience obstacles to accessing safe, compassionate care. Sobeys’ gift is supporting Finding Hope: Kids Help Phone’s Action Plan for Supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Young People and RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone, a framework for creating a first-of-its-kind 24/7 mental health service specifically for Black and Afro-diaspora youth.
We are incredibly grateful for Sobeys’s support and inspired by their commitment to creating a more just and equitable future for all young people across Canada. Thank you, Sobeys!
“We’ve partnered with Kids Help Phone for so many years and the way they stood up to support youth across Canada during the pandemic has been nothing short of amazing. We have so much confidence in the integrated program that has been created in partnership with both Black and Indigenous community leaders and are proud to see this programming evolve to provide a focus on supporting early intervention for Black and Indigenous youth.”
