He stood planted on the ground,
but dug up the soil and walked towards me.
Was it really just a 5 letter word to him?
Strung along like a party trick
when the conversation goes awry?
His friend shockingly opened his mouth but glued his lips shut.
So I did the same, and he walked away fearlessly.
There was no dirt on his bruised fingertips,
killing everything he touched.
The seed would have blossomed into a bouquet of passion,
proposing to his dear love
if he never showed.
The girl would have blossomed into the life of a party,
waving like a tree in the wind
if he never spoke.
By the time I look up,
He’s gone out of my sight.
With every stride of my foot,
I see a trail of earth compiling behind me.
Dead debris lays below my feet and the grime is my skin.
His colour was pure and white and bright and solid.
So once I catch up to him,
I will call myself a plant and name myself ‘His’.
