A person thinking about suicide may tell jokes about taking their life, obsess over death or not care what happens to them.

[Doodles and the words “May tell jokes,” “Obsess over death” and “Not care or withdraw” appear]

If you’re worried, talk to them about it.

[A mobile phone appears showing a text conversation that says, “You seem really down lately. Do you want to talk about it?” They text back a sad face emoji. “I’m worried about you. What’s going on?” They text back, “I think the world would be better off without me…” “Are you thinking about suicide?”]

Tell the person you care and are there to listen and help.

And it’s OK to ask the person if they’re thinking about suicide. Asking does not make it more likely they’ll consider suicide or “give them the idea.”

[The mobile phone vibrates as it makes a call]

If the person is thinking about suicide, and gives you information on how or when they’ll act, get help immediately.

[Text appears above the mobile phone that says, “Hey, it’s me. Where are you right now? I think we should get help.”]

Let them know you’d like to involve a safe adult, like a parent or teacher.

[Text appears above a winding road that says, “I think we should talk to someone about this. I’ll go with you.”]

If you think they’re in immediate danger, call 911 or the emergency services in your area.
